why can’t we be friends?
ZAK FENNIE & FRIENDS is an alternative rock project built on pure contrast. Fronted by Napa Valley singer-songwriter Zak Fennie, the music bridges street-busker grit with refined songwriting, balancing dark, brooding tones alongside soaring, cathartic light.
Born from a mindset of total artistic freedom and giving everything to every note, Fennie crafts songs that explore the full emotional spectrum of growing up, shifting times, and looking forward without losing your edge.
Grounded by layered guitar work, driving rhythms, and big melodic choruses, the sound channels the melodic hooks of Jimmy Eat World, the scale of The Killers, and the post-punk, atmospheric jangle of The Cure. Whether in the studio or performing live with a tight-knit lineup of long-time collaborators, ZAK FENNIE & FRIENDS delivers a fresh, guitar-forward indie sound rooted in classic 80s and 90s alt-rock—a true love letter to lost youth and keeping your foot on the gas.
